Meridians Policies

Meridians is NCSBN’s learning program designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and confidence of nursing regulators as they carry out the shared mission of public protection. Created for regulators and shaped by regulatory practice, Meridians provides practical, relevant, and flexible learning experiences that build common understanding, develop role-specific knowledge and skills, and foster connections across jurisdictions. Learners can access courses, learning journeys, live learning opportunities, and The Network through the Learning Hub.

The following definitions explain common terms used throughout these policies and within the Meridians learning experience.

• Learning Hub: The online platform where learners access Meridians courses, learning journeys, live sessions, and resources.
• The Network: A community space for learner connection, discussion, and information sharing related to Meridians programming.
• Self-Paced: A learning format that allows learners to move through content independently, subject to any stated deadlines or completion requirements.
• On-Demand: A self-paced learning experience that is available for learners to access within a defined enrollment or access window.
• Standalone Course: An individual course that may be taken on its own and is not part of a required course sequence.
• Learning Journey: A grouped sequence of courses or learning experiences organized around a topic, role, competency area, or development need.
• Instructor-Led Training (ILT): A scheduled learning experience led by a facilitator or subject matter expert, delivered live either virtually or in person.

These policies are intended to support a consistent, accessible, and respectful learning experience for all Meridians learners. Learners are responsible for reviewing applicable requirements before enrolling in or participating in a course, learning journey, live session, or The Network. Questions about these policies should be directed to the NCSBN Help Center.

Technical Requirements

For the best learning experience, learners should access the Learning Hub from an internet-connected desktop or laptop computer. The following system requirements are recommended for accessing Learning Hub content and activities.

Desktop Operating Systems

• Microsoft Windows 10 or higher
• macOS, last two major releases

Tablet Operating Systems

Tablets may be used when supported, but a desktop or laptop computer is recommended for the best learning experience.

• iPadOS, last two major releases
• Android 12.0 or higher

Recommended Browsers

Use the latest version of a supported browser.

• Microsoft Edge
• Google Chrome
• Safari

Mobile App

At this time, a mobile app is not available for the Learning Hub. Learners should access the Learning Hub through a supported web browser.

Passport Access

For complete and free access to Meridians learning experiences, NCSBN Members must access the Learning Hub using their Passport credentials. If you do not have a Passport account, please contact the Passport Administrator at your Nursing Regulatory Body.

Meridians materials are provided for individual learning and professional development through the Learning Hub. Learners may not copy, reproduce, distribute, resell, publish, or otherwise use Meridians materials outside the intended learning experience without prior permission.

Learner accounts are assigned to individual users. Accounts, login credentials, course access, certificates, and completion records may not be shared or transferred to another person.

If a learner or Nursing Regulatory Body wishes to use Meridians materials beyond the learning experience, including for training, presentations, distribution, or other organizational purposes, they should contact the NCSBN Help Center for review and guidance before using the materials.

Meridians Use Of AI

Meridians learning experiences, including course content, learning objectives, assessments, and required learner activities, are developed, reviewed, and approved by NCSBN staff and subject matter experts. AI is not used to independently develop, review, or approve course content.

Approved AI tools may be used to support course production, accessibility, or delivery, such as AI-generated narration or voice acting, transcription, captioning, or editing support. The NCSBN Education Department will disclose AI-supported tools when their use is apparent within the learning experience, such as narration, captioning, or other production features.

Learner Expectations

Learners are expected to submit their own original work and participate in learning activities using their own words, judgment, and understanding.

Unless explicitly allowed in the learning experience, learners may not use AI tools or AI-generated content to complete assignments, discussion posts, reflections, assessments, or other required learning activities. Work copied from outside sources or generated by AI and submitted as the learner’s own is not permitted. Learners who use outside sources to support their work must cite those sources appropriately.

Work that does not meet these expectations may need to be revised, resubmitted, or removed from the learning experience. In some cases, unauthorized AI use or plagiarism may affect completion, certificates, or continuing education documentation.

On-demand & ILTs

If an on-demand and ILT learning experience is full, where appropriate, a waitlist will be made available in the Learning Hub. The waitlist is first come first served.

On-demand learning must be completed and ILTs must be attended, within the timeframe listed in the Learning Hub. Learners who do not complete or attend a Meridians learning experience within the stated timeframe may need to re-enroll or register for a future offering, if available.

Learners may request to withdraw from most Meridians on-demand learning experiences or ILTs.

Withdrawing, not completing, or not attending may affect access to content, progress, certificates, or continuing education documentation. Refund eligibility, when applicable, is addressed in the Refunds section of these policies.

The Network

Learners should use The Network and related discussion forums for respectful, professional learning-related dialogue. Posts and replies should support peer learning and stay relevant to the discussion.

Learners must not share confidential, sensitive, personally identifiable, disciplinary, or protected health information in The Network or related discussion forums.

The NCSBN Education Department may review, remove, or restrict access to posts or activity that does not align with these expectations.

Course Content Concerns

Learners may report concerns if they believe learning experience content, an assessment question, answer option, feedback or related resource is inaccurate, unclear, outdated or inconsistent with learning objectives.

Submit concerns to the NCSBN Help Center and include enough detail for review, such as the course name, module or page, specific activity, question or content at issue, and any supporting information.

The NCSBN Education Department will review submitted concerns and determine whether a correction, clarification, scoring adjustment, or other action is appropriate; submitting a concern does not guarantee a change, certificate of completion, continuing education documentation, or other learning outcome.

Selected Meridians learning experiences may qualify for continuing education contact hours. Eligibility, completion requirements, and any required evaluation will be identified in the Learning Hub.

Learners who successfully complete a qualifying learning experience and any required evaluation may receive continuing education documentation and/or a certificate of completion. A certificate of completion confirms participation or completion but does not guarantee continuing education contact hours unless the learning experience is specifically designated as eligible.

Learners who do not complete all requirements by the stated deadline may not receive completion, certificate, or continuing education documentation. Learners are responsible for downloading, saving, and submitting their documentation to any required recipient, such as a Nursing Regulatory Body, employer, or other organization.

NCSBN is committed to providing an accessible learning experience for learners of all backgrounds and abilities. The Learning Hub is designed to support accessibility and targets compliance with WCAG 2.2 to help reduce barriers for learners, including learners with disabilities.

Learners who need an accommodation to access or participate in a Meridians learning experience should contact the NCSBN Help Center. Accommodation requests are reviewed individually and may require additional information or documentation.

Accommodations do not guarantee a specific outcome or level of achievement and do not apply to non-disability-related circumstances, such as work conflicts, vacations, or family commitments.

Learners who are eligible for a refund should contact the NCSBN Help Center to submit a request.

For on-demand learning, learners may request a full refund within 30 days of enrollment if the learning experience has not been opened or accessed.

Approved refunds will be returned to the original payment method used at enrollment.

Policy exception requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed.

Learners who believe their circumstances fall outside these policies should contact the NCSBN Help Center as soon as possible. Requests should include the learning experience, the policy or deadline involved, the reason for the request, and any relevant supporting information.

When possible, learners are encouraged to submit requests before a deadline or scheduled learning experience has passed.
